South Point 29, Forestview 71 — Here’s how huge of a gap Forestview has created between itself and the rest of the Big South 3A Conference:

The Jaguars were without two suspended starters and still handled third-place South Point 71-29 on Tuesday.

Phierica Gardin scored 19, Britnee Roberts added 18 points, helping Forestview (17-2, 9-0) move within a game of clinching a share of the Big South title.

South Point 78, Hunter Huss 28 — South Point (10-6, 6-3) took sole possession of third place by turning the tables on Ashbrook (7-10, 5-4), which had won 46-39 in the first meeting in December.

“This was a big game for us,” said South Point coach Scott Tudor, whose team ended the game on a 12-3 surge. “The first game was very similar except that we led and they came back on us.”

South Point 24, Forestview 72 — Forestview's girls rolled to a 72-24 victory against a South Point team with whom they shared the 2011 Big South regular-season title.

"We spent a lot of time yesterday at practice shooting and talking about improving on what we did in the Christmas tournament," said Gurganus, whose team went 1-2 to finish fourth in the always-strong Hardwood Classic at Charlotte's Bojangles' Coliseum. "We live and die by our defense, but we've got to make shots too."

The Lady Jaguars (11-2, 3-0) did both against a South Point team coming off a runnerup finish in last week's David Wright Holiday Classic in Cherryville.

South Point 53, Cherryville 55 — The Lady Ironmen (8-5) ended 10 years of frustration in their own tournament behind 24 points and seven rebounds from tournament MVP Lauren Graham.

South Point coach Scott Tudor said the game was a learning experience for his young club.

“We are still pretty much a young team, and we lost our composure a little and took some questionable shots. We have to learn to play with a lead a little, but Cherryville played hard and didn’t quit. It was a really good game,” Tudor said.

For South Point, Brittany Green led with 15 points while Ashley Mull had 11 and Haley Stewart 10.
